Firefighters battle blaze at Rose-Agri Seed building

Posted: Updated:

Canby firefighters were called to a commercial fire on South Barlow Road belonging to Rose-Agri Seed.

When crews arrived at the scene Thursday, they said the smoke was so heavy blowing across the road, they could not see the building right away. Firefighters had to cut holes into the building to fight the flames and cooled four nearby propane tanks.  It took 40 firefighters, including those from nearby departments, to put out the blaze.

Investigators believe the fire started during a grass seed drying process. Damage is estimated at $100,000.

Rose-Agri Seed used the building for research and development of new grass seed products. The owner's family tells FOX 12 that seed products were not stored in that building.
