Three skiers lost in heavy snow near Ski Bowl rescued

GOVERNMENT CAMP, OR (KPTV) -

While rescue crews worked to locate a pair of skiers lost near Ski Bowl, a call came in that another skier was stuck in white out conditions.

It all started at 8:20 p.m. Thursday. Rescue crews were notified about two men who had spent the day skiing, but became lost.

Searchers tracked their cell phone coordinates to an area near Still Creek Road and Chimney Rock Road. The skiers were located, escorted back to the Trillium Lake Sno Park and warmed up by EMTs.

The men then drove home around midnight.

While in the middle of that rescue operation, at around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, another lost skier called to say he was stuck in the heavy snow conditions.

His phone was not as helpful in tracking him down, according to deputies, as it initially gave off inaccurate coordinates.

Crews managed to narrow down his location to a spot not far from where the first two skiers got lost, just on the other side of Still Creek.

Searchers eventually located a single pair of tracks in the snow and then were able to make verbal contact with the skier just before 6 a.m. Friday.

Because he had spent so much time out in the cold, rescue crews took extra time to warm him up before bringing him out to safety.

He was taken out by ATV to Trillium Lake Snow Park where he was checked out by medics. He was then allowed to drive home without being taken to the hospital.
