The Federal Aviation Administration has spared one of five small Oregon airports whose towers were on a list of proposed closings.
The agency released a list Friday of the towers it plans to close because of automatic federal budget cuts.
In Oregon, they are at North Bend, Pendleton, Salem and Troutdale.
The list doesn't include the Klamath Falls Airport, where officials argued for operating the tower because commercial and private planes share a single runway with the F-15 fighter jets based at Kingsley Field.
Airports can remain open without towers, but pilots are responsible for their own safety by talking to each other.
