PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Attorneys for a local teenager accused of kidnapping a baby hoped their client's bail would be reduced or eliminated, but a judge denied the request.

Kabriana Harper's family had hoped that she would be released into their custody.

Harper is accused of kidnapping a 4-month-old child from its home on Southeast 148th at 2 a.m. on March 5. Investigators said the child was found and recovered in a front yard about five hours later.

In court Friday, prosecutors expressed concern about Harper being released, saying it remains unclear why the crime occurred, and questioned her mental health. Defense attorneys pointed out recent improvements in Harper's school attendance and grades, but prosecutors said that her past attendance problems could be a sign that she would not show up for future court appearances.

Harper's bail remains at $265,000. Her trial is set to begin at the end of April.
