HAPPY VALLEY, OR (KPTV) -

Police are searching for the driver and the car they say were involved in a hit-and-run crash that sent a little girl to the hospital last Saturday.

Oregon State Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Robert Simmons from Oregon City.

Investigators believe Simmons crashed his silver 1999 BMW 528i into a car near the intersection of SE 82nd Avenue and SE Causey Avenue. A 5-year-old girl in the other car was rushed to the hospital.

"If we would have been two to three seconds sooner, he would have smashed in the whole side of the car where the doors are," Jennifer Crenshaw said. "My babysitter and my kids would have been seriously hurt."

A license plate from the silver BMW fell off during the crash and was left at the scene. The vehicle should have extensive front damage.

"He didn't even care. Whether he was in the wrong or the right, what you do ... you help people in these situations and you make sure everybody was OK," Crenshaw said.

Anyone with information about where Simmons is should asked call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at (503) 731-3030. Senior Trooper Dan Swift is the lead investigator and can also be contacted by email at daniel.swift@state.or.us.
