A man crashed his car into the rear trailer axle of a semi before the car bounced off the initial impact point and came to rest beneath the trailer of a second semi.
The crash involving the two semi trucks and Hyundai Elantra took place Wednesday at about 5:45 a.m. on Highway 99E at Waconda Road. That's just north of Brooks.
State police said two commercial trucks were pulling out from a private driveway on the west side of the highway. As the first truck went across the southbound lane, 44-year-old Virginio Pila Ines crashed into it.
Pila Ines was taken by paramedics to Salem Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. He survived the crash; police said he wore a seat belt and his car's airbags deployed.
The two truck drivers, both from Mount Angel, weren't hurt in the wreck.
Drivers were told to avoid the area or expect long delays in the hour that followed the wreck, but the highway reopened by 6:45 a.m.
