PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A suspected drunken driver slammed through the wall of a north Portland building, leaving behind major damage and a pile of debris Friday morning.

Richard Dewolf, the owner of the building at 4231 N. Interstate Ave., said he received a phone call around 3 a.m. from the security alarm company, saying the alarm had been tripped.

He initially thought it was a false alarm but soon learned a driver had crashed through the wall.

Paramedics took the driver to a hospital to be treated. It appears he had been heading southbound on North Interstate Avenue when he crashed.

Dewolf has owned the building for the last 13 years and leases it out. It is currently used by the Yeates Academy of Irish Dance.

He said there is at least $50,000 in damage, and he wouldn't be surprised if the final figure approaches six figures.

He said the integrity of the building is now at risk, and the siding will have to be stripped in order to repair this building.
