A man who will spend the rest of his life behind bars will have to do it under his given name.
Mark Beebout filed a motion in court to legally change his name to Yunus Mohammed. A judge denied that motion Friday, saying such a name change was not in the public interest and therefore would not be approved.
Mark Beebout pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in February for killing 15-year-old Mayra Sophia Cruz Rodriguez, whose body was found in Washington Park, and 32-year-old Nikayla Powell, whose body was found in her Belmont Street apartment.
He received two consecutive life sentences in prison with no possibility of parole earlier this month.
