A fire in a long-standing local barbershop shut down a main road through southeast Portland during Monday evening's commute.

The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. at Southeast 82nd and Ramona.

Crews arrived to find heavy flames and smoke at Dale Brothers Barber Shop. Firefighters originally reported the shop was abandoned, but later corrected that information.

The family-run barbershop has been in business for 40 years.

Firefighters were able to get control of the situation and salvage the barbershop. Damages are estimated at $30,000. Family members said they are very thankful for the work done by the firefighters.

The cause has been linked to an unspecified electrical problem, according to investigators.
