Police: Accidental shooting nearly hits woman in next-door apartment

Posted: Updated:

A Troutdale man is facing criminal charges after an accidental shooting sent a bullet blasting through two neighboring apartments.

Investigators said it happened at 11:15 a.m. at the Glacier View Apartments near Stark Street and Corbeth Lane.

Lawrence Wach, 29, was cleaning his handgun in the living room when it went off, according to detectives.

Police said drywall from the gun blast hit a woman in a neighboring apartment, but she was not hit by the bullet. She suffered a minor scratch on her head, but she was not badly hurt.

The 26-year-old woman told officers she was sitting on the couch with a friend when the shot came through the wall. She said the bullet was within a foot of hitting her as it continued traveling into the next apartment.

Nobody was home in the apartment where the bullet was found.

Wach is being charged with reckless endangerment for what police called "negligent discharge of his handgun."
