The Portland Police Bureau will continue to use fingerprints to track down criminals. The City Council renewed the bureau's access Wednesday to a database that contains 29 million fingerprints.
A nonprofit known as WIN catalogues fingerprints from eight western states, including Oregon.
WIN intends to eventually broaden its services to include other biometric data including retinal and facial data as part of the Automated Biometric Identification System.
