An Oregon inmate already convicted of murder is now accused of killing his stepdaughter more than two decades ago.

Linn County deputies have not released details, but said advances in DNA testing helped them bring charges against John Ackroyd.

His stepdaughter, Rachanda Pickle, vanished in 1990.

Her body has never been found.

Investigators believe Ackroyd and his wife waited 24 hours before reporting the 13-year-old girl missing.

Three years after Pickle's disappearance, Ackroyd was convicted of killing Kaye Turner in the Metolius River area in 1978.

He is already serving a life sentence.

Ackroyd appeared in court Wednesday for his arraignment on the new charges.

He was then taken back to the Oregon State Penitentiary.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 8.
