The FBI is now investigating a police shooting in Utah that killed a woman from Vancouver.

An officer in West Valley City, UT, shot and killed Danielle Willard, 21, last November during a drug investigation.

The police chief announced Wednesday the FBI would get involved, amidst allegation of cover-ups and corruption in her department.

Investigators said undercover detectives were watching Willard during a drug investigation on Nov. 2. Two officers opened fire after they say she hit one of them with her car.

Since that shooting, one of the officers involved has surfaced in 19 cases that were dismissed by the district attorney for "lack of evidence."

"This gives us the opportunity to have someone outside of this department look at our department and see if any of those things were occurring," said Acting West Valley City Police Chief Anita Schwemmer of the allegations.

Willard's family said she struggled with drug addiction and went to a rehab center in Utah to get away from it all. Her mother, Melissa Kennedy, told Fox 12 after the shooting that her daughter was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Sale Lake County district attorney is also reviewing the case and has not yet ruled if the officers were justified in the shooting.
