PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The ban on weekend car traffic in Portland's Old Town entertainment district will go on for two more months.

The Friday and Saturday night closures between Everett and Burnside, as well as between 2nd and 4th, started three months ago. They were scheduled to end last weekend, but Portland Mayor Charlie Hales decided to extend them for another 60 days.

The goal of the traffic ban is to reduce accidents involving pedestrians.

Later this month, Hales said he will meet with stakeholders and take a midnight walking tour of Old Town. He'll then decide whether or not to make the closures permanent.
