Man shows up for work, crashes in parking lot

Posted: Updated:

A man arriving at work suffered a medical emergency and slammed his car into a fire sprinkler control valve Monday.

Canby fire officials said the man crashed at Package Containers on Northeast 3rd Avenue around 7:15 a.m.

The medical emergency caused him to accelerate at a high rate of speed across about 3,000 feet of a grassy area before his car came to rest on top of a valve for the company's sprinkler system.

Because there were traffic delays on Interstate 5, firefighters called in a LifeFlight helicopter to quickly take the man to a hospital.

There's no word yet on the severity of his injuries.

The site of the crash was just off Highway 99E near the Clackamas County Fairgrounds.

A Canby police spokesperson said there were no initial signs of impairment on the part of the driver.
