'Wake up call' Panthers try to rise up after Knoxville loss

Posted: Updated:

What in the world happened to the Albany Panthers on Friday? Albany went on the road and lost a three point contest that just never seemed to go right from the kickoff.

31-28 was the final to the then winless Knoxville Nighthawks. Now, days after the Panthers are hoping to put that game behind them and return to championship form this week against Alabama.

Head coach Lucious Davis pointed to a lack of focus, execution and at times effort for the loss it was something he stressed to his team well before the game in practice last week.

"We could tell early on that it was going to be a long game. I had been preaching all week to those guys that if we go in there and take them lightly that it was going to be a tough game and I believe that's what happened. I believe they went in thinking it was going to be an easy win and when they hit us in the mouth we never rebounded."

Panthers play at the Hammers this Saturday.
