Portland Timbers make it two wins in a row

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Timbers made it two wins in a row with a victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at JELD-WEN Sunday night.

It took the Timbers 78 minutes to get on the scoreboard, despite the green and white having 65% possession.

AnEarthquakes midfielder fouled Kalif Alhassan outside of San Jose's penalty box.

Timbers captain Will Johnson took the resulting free kick, sending the ball over the wall and towards the inside goal post just out of the reach of the Quakes goalie.

Proceedings ended with a one-nil Portland win.

The victory saw Portland jump up to third place in the Western Conference.

The Timbers have nine points from six matches.

The green-and-white head to San Jose next weekend to take on the Earthquakes again.
