The American Red Cross has a "Safe and Well" page
for people to let family members and friends know that they are safe.
While the Red Cross is not in need of blood donations for the Boston
victims at this time, they remind people that the need for blood cross
the county is constant.
The Red Cross also recommends that people register for a first aid
and CPR course to be better prepared to help in future emergencies.
The Better Business Bureau has issued a release urging donors to give
thoughtfully and avoid those seeking to take advantage of the
generosity of others.
"Tragedies inspire people to
give," said H. Art Taylor, president and CEO of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, "but, tragedies –
whether natural disasters or manmade catastrophes – also inspire scammers to
take advantage of that generosity. Social media, in particular, makes it very
easy to reach a lot of people quickly, when emotions are running high and
people feel the need to take action, any action, to help."
The BBB warns that at least one charity scam has already emerged in the aftermath of the tragedy and more are likely to follow.
