A Saginaw Township elementary school has closed due flooding and a Midland college has canceled classes for the rest of the week in anticipation of high water that's expected to cause problems at its campus.

Northwood University canceled Thursday and Friday classes at its Midland campus along the rain-swollen Tittabawassee River.

The Midland County Office of Emergency Management has warned that rain would lead to substantial flooding along the river. If the campus area gets as much rain as expected, the school says its South Village apartments and other areas could flood.

The school is asking South Village residents to pack belongings for a possible evacuation and take belongings home if people are leaving campus.

Saginaw Township Community Schools says on its website that flooding Thursday closed Arrowwood Elementary.
