SAGINAW, MI (WNEM/AP) -
More flooding and a return to wintry weather in places are being seen as spring storms prompt evacuations in parts of Michigan.
TV5 Meteorologist Trainee Ted Phaeton said we have already seen our high temperature for the day early Friday morning and temperatures will linger in the mid 40s for most of the day while cold air moves into the region.
Expect rain early and then even some light snow later, but the main issue will be the wind. Winds will be out of the SW at about 25-30 mph with gusts exceeding 45 mph. A chilly night is ahead as temperatures fall to the mid 20s and a few snow showers are on tap. Winds shift to the west and settle at about 20 mph. Temperatures will top out in the mid 40s for Saturday with dry conditions. There are major flooding concerns for this weekend as well.
Areal flood warnings have been posted for Bay, Huron, Midland, Saginaw and Tuscola counties until 10 a.m. Friday. Mecosta County is under an areal flood warning until 7:30 p.m. Friday. Gratiot County is under an areal flood warning until 5:30 p.m. Friday. Montcalm County is under an areal flood warning until 5 p.m. Friday.
Flood warnings have been issued for Arenac County until 9 a.m. Monday. Isabella County remains under a flood warning until 11:25 p.m. Friday. Shiawassee County is under a flood warning until 8 p.m. Monday.
A number of counties in the area are under a wind advisory as well. Sanilac, Lapeer and Genesee counties are under that advisory until 10 p.m. Friday.
Gladwin, Clare, Iosco, Ogemaw and Roscommon counties are under a Wind Advisory until 8 p.m. Friday.
In West Michigan, the National Weather Service said soils are saturated from recent heavy rains and more flooding is expected Friday and beyond. In northern Michigan, gusting winds and snow are forecast.
With waters seeping into ground-floor apartments, firefighters in Grand Rapids helped residents of Park Place Apartments evacuate Thursday night. MLive.com reports the apartment complex management team ordered the evacuations after Plaster Creek flooded.
Evacuations also were ordered Thursday in some parts of the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming.
Severe thunderstorms on Thursday produced damaging winds and heavy rain. Some students were evacuated at Northwood University's Midland campus along the rain-swollen Tittabawassee River in anticipation of flooding.
