Gov. Rick Snyder praises Flint program for creating jobs

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Gov. Rick Snyder praised a Flint program for creating jobs. Snyder highlighted N.E.W. Life Enterprises and called it a model for the state.

"The best solution you can get is to help people have a job to solve a long-term problem," said Snyder.

N.E.W. Life Enterprises makes scrubs, hospital gowns, adult garment bibs and cell phone covers. The uniform business currently has 11 employees.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has pledged $800,000 to the business to help create jobs. N.E.W. Life Enterprises hopes to employ 100 people by the fourth quarter of 2014. Support will come from the MEDC and a program called Community Ventures.

The governor and MEDC president praised the program's ability to create jobs in Flint. The state is focusing on creating opportunities in high-crime areas.

"And so if we solve the jobs problem. We have a chance to reduce the crime and violence problem," said Michael Finney, MEDC President and CEO.
