The man accused of stealing an English bulldog puppy at gunpoint is going to prison.

Jajuane Etheridge, 23, pleaded guilty in a Clark County courtroom Monday to charges of possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He was arrested in October 2012 after meeting with local kennel owners at the Clackamas Town Center regarding a puppy for sale.

Deputies said Jim and Pat Steele, owners of Aldercrest Kennels in Oregon City, advertised the bulldog online at a price of $2,000.

The dog's name is Harpo.

Investigators said Etheridge looked at the dog and then pulled out a handgun. He pointed it at the victims and told them to hand over their wallets, watches and cell phones. They refused, so he reached into their car, grabbed the puppy and ran to a waiting car that drove him away.

Tips led to an apartment complex in Vancouver two days later. The SWAT team was called out to 4710 Plomondon St. because of a potential threat of weapons.

After a three-hour standoff, Etheridge was taken into custody. Harpo was found by police in a suitcase.

The dog's owners said the puppy was lethargic and dehydrated when they got him back, but they were just happy he was safe.

Etheridge was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison Monday on charges in Clark County. He will also face additional charges in Clackamas County, according to prosecutors.

No court date is set yet in Clackamas County.
