Timbers celebrate hard-fought win over Sporting KC

KANSAS CITY, KS (KPTV) -

The Portland Timbers are celebrating a hard-fought 3-2 away win at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.

The match got off to a rough start for the Timbers, they gave up a goal inside the first minute.

It was back and forth for the first 45 with both teams entering the second half with two goals each.

The score stayed that way until the 58th minute when Rodney Wallace's goal put the Green and White in the lead.

Portland keeper Donovan Ricketts stopped a Sporting attempt to equalize late in stoppage time.

The win moves the Timbers up to third place in the Western Conference.

The Green and White now have 13 points from eight matches.

The Timbers return to JELD-WEN field on Thursday to take on New England Revolution.
