Police: Teen speeding away from trooper causes 5-car crash

Posted: Updated:

A police chase ended in a five-car crash that sent four people to the hospital and left one 18-year-old facing criminal charges.

It started around 8 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 5 in Vancouver.

Washington State Patrol says 18-year-old Zackery Flores was speeding when a trooper spotted him. That trooper was in the process of trying to pull the truck over when it crashed into four other cars near the Highway 99 exit.

All of the cars were stopped at a red light, and Flores' truck crashed into each one. Three of the vehicles were totaled, including Flores' truck.

The collision injured Flores, as well as his passenger, and two other people.

He was released from the hospital at 2 a.m. Monday and booked into the Clark County Jail. He is charged with vehicular assault, felony hit and run and felony eluding police.

Investigators said alcohol was likely a factor.
