KELSO, WA (KPTV) -

A Kelso family was shaken up after FOX 12's Most Wanted broke into their kids' room and stole an Xbox while they were sleeping just feet away.

It happened in the early morning hours on Saturday in a home off of Mill Street.

According to the family, the window to the kids' room was opened slightly because it was a warm night. They say the thief cut through their screen and crawled in.

Even at nine months pregnant, Joann Johnson is standing her ground and sleeping with one eye open.

"I would've knocked them out. I am not scared of anybody," Johnson said.

Johnson said she put on Dora the Explorer on the Xbox to help the kids sleep. The next morning, it was missing.

"I went to go put a game in for his son," Johnson said. "He asked me where the Xbox was and I said, ‘Well, I don't know, it was there when we went to bed.'"

Somehow, Johnson said, the thief was able to sneak into the room climbing through the window, quiet as a mouse.

"They were really close to the kids when they came in," Johnson said.

Next to the TV, all that's left on the dresser is evidence that the thief got what they wanted and left in a hurry.

"They took the Xbox and the controller, but they left the power pack," she said.

Johnson said the family just moved from Longview to Kelso last month to escape drugs and violence in their neighborhood. Now, she's not sure they made the right choice.

"It makes us uneasy about staying here and then having a baby on the way," Johnson said.

Police found scuff marks on the home's siding, just below the window facing the street. They also lifted several fingerprints around the window.

"If I find out who they are or if they come back to steal something else, they're going to be sorry," Johnson said.

If you know anything about this case, contact Kelso police.
