PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland native and NFL player Ndamukong Suh helped celebrate a new addition to his old high school.

Grant High School broke ground on a new track and football turf Thursday afternoon, thanks to more than a million dollars in donations.

Suh, who plays for the Detroit Lions, was on hand for the announcement.

He graduated from Grant High School in 2005, and his foundation donated $250,000 to the project.

Suh says he wouldn't have made it to the NFL without the help from his community, and now it feels great to pay them back.

The high school has been asking for a new field for the last 12 years.

The old track was in such poor condition, last year it was deemed too unsafe for use.

Other donations came from Nike, Portland Parks and Rec and Portland Public Schools.
