DALLAS, OR (KPTV) -

A trio of horse owners guilty of neglecting their animals got a second chance, but investigators said they just continued treating their horses poorly.

Polk County deputies began an animal neglect investigation regarding seven horses on Pioneer Road in Dallas.

Three people were arrested and later pleaded guilty to animal neglect. Patricia Hill, 61, Christopher Perrault, 31, and Trina Perrault, 36, entered into a diversion agreement with the Polk County District Attorney's Office.

That agreement required them to provide adequate care for the horses. The sheriff's office provided food and education to the horse owners.

On April 16, deputies went to the property to check on the animals. Along with a local veterinarian, it was determined the same seven horses were still being neglected.

A search warrant was issued to seize the horses Thursday. Deputies, the mounted posse and volunteers went to the location and removed nine horses believed to be neglected.

The horses were taken to a horse rescue facility. The original seven horses were forfeited under the terms of the diversion agreement.

The investigation is ongoing, but deputies said additional criminal charges will be filed by the district attorney's office.
