BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

TriMet is offering $1,000 to track down whoever placed large rocks on MAX tracks and damaged a train.

Investigators said a MAX train went over one of the rocks, about 12 inches in diameter, near the Millikan Way station around 5 a.m. Thursday.

The collision damaged the hydraulic system of the Blue Line train and it had to be removed from service. Two other trains were then delayed Thursday morning.

Investigators said a pile of large rocks and boulders were discovered nearby as part of a landscaping project. It's believed someone took rocks from that location and put them on the tracks.

Repairs to the train are estimated at $20,000.

TriMet is offering $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Those responsible would face charges of criminal mischief, which is punishable by up to five years in prison.

If you know anything about the case, call 503-238-7433.
