VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

The remains of a man missing since August 2011 were discovered on Interstate 5 in Vancouver.

The skeletal remains were found April 23 near the East 39th Street exit ramp. The Clark County Medical Examiner's Office said Monday they have been positively identified as Jesse Klein, of Vancouver. He was 29 years old when he disappeared.

Vancouver police said Klein was last seen leaving Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital on Aug. 25, 2011, and did not have contact with anyone after that time.

Investigators have not yet said if a crime was committed associated with his death. The cause of death is currently listed as "pending."

Loved ones of Klein tell FOX 12 that they can't imagine why he would intentionally leave his family behind.

They admit he had a history of drug abuse,  and was upset over the 2009 death of his child.

But, according to loved ones, Klein had tired to turn his life around for his wife and new four- month-old little girl.

They say while there is some closure knowing that he has finally been found,  the family now longs to know how their beloved Jesse came to rest.

"The unknown by itself is hard, you know your brain will go and go and go, wondering if maybe this happened, or maybe that happened," said Klein's sister-in-law Angela Diraimo.

"With out that closure, its definitely taking a toll. He was loved, and he did have a lot of people who cared for him."
