Stray bullets struck a Falls City apartment building, landing in an apartment occupied by three children, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
According to investigators, shots were fired near the intersection of Bridge Street and South Main Street around 11:50 p.m. Saturday. The bullets traveled over the Little Luckiamute River and struck the back of the apartment complex where Crystal Lorensen lives with her husband and three young children.
"I'm just so nervous and rattled. I don't know words can really explain," said Lorensen.
Lorensen said she heard three gunshots late Saturday night, then a bullet landed on her living room floor. It came through the wall after traveling through her neighbor's apartment, she said.
Two other bullets came into the bedroom shared by her 11-year-old and 9-year-old sons. One bullet hole was inches from the top bunk of the bunk bed, where her oldest son was supposed to be sleeping.
"They were not listening and playing their video games on the floor in the closet so mommy and daddy don't see ‘em," she said. "If they didn't have these games they probably would have been up on that bed. I couldn't imagine my life without my 11-year-old, without any of my boys."
