VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A man was shot and killed in a Vancouver neighborhood Thursday night.

Officers were called to the scene near West 27th Street and Fruit Valley Road in Vancouver just before 5:30 p.m.

Vancouver police said the man who was shot had died by the time they arrived at the scene.

The suspected shooter lived at the home where the shooting happened, police said. He was taken into custody for questioning but had not been arrested as of 10 p.m. Thursday, they added.

Police said there are no outstanding suspects in this case.

Investigators said it appears the two men knew each other. However, it's not yet clear what prompted the shooting.

"I walk by that house almost every day to go to the store," said witness Chaz Davis. "And I've said 'Hi' to the guy before and he says 'Hi' back. As far as I know, they've always been nice to me personally."

Neighbors reported hearing one to six gunshots in rapid succession.

"My neighbor came home and was like, 'The roads are blocked off. I think someone may have been shot,'" said neighbor Karla Bilden.

Neighbors said the home where the shooting happened has been a problem spot for some time. Motorcycles ride up and down the street at all hours of the night, they said.

"You know, Harleys or loud bikes or whatever," said Davis. "So, you could tell that something was going on there, but just not too sure what."

Police haven't said if the gun used in the shooting has been recovered.

The identifies of the shooter and the victim have not been released.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department.
