Suspicious substance shuts down Portland elections office

Posted: Updated:

A suspicious substance led to the evacuation of the Multnomah County elections office in southeast Portland.

An elections worker called 911 at 4:10 p.m. Monday to report an envelope containing a crystalline substance.

Emergency crews at the scene said three workers came in contact with the substance and were quarantined.

The ventilation system was then shut down and an evacuation was ordered for the entire building at 1040 S.E. Morrison.

Investigators have not revealed any other details about the envelope or the substance.
