Police arrest panhandler accused of abusing dog on side of the road

BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Police arrested a panhandler in Beaverton after drivers passing by reported him kicking and hitting his small dog on Friday.

Police say Edward Ford tied his dog to a sign post on the Barnes Road ramp to Highway 217.

He denied hurting the dog, named Hana, but officers say the dog cowered every time he raised his voice.

After his arrest, Hana was taken away and is now being cared for by animal protective services.

She did not appear to have any serious or lasting physical injuries.

Police arrested Ford for animal abuse in the second degree and he was lodged at the Washington County Jail.
