Police: Portland man stabbed woman who tried to stop rape

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police have arrested the suspect in an assault and stabbing in Northeast Portland.

James Moultrie was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on assault, kidnap, rape and sodomy charges.

Police responded to the Parkway Gardens Apartments on Northeast Sandy Boulevard at around 4 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a stabbing.

Officers found an adult woman with multiple stab wounds.

She was taken to an area hospital, and her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

According to police, Moultrie came over to the apartment, sexually assaulted a woman known to him and then stabbed the woman's roommate when she tried to intervene.

Moultrie will be arraigned in court later Thursday.
