WASHINGTON D.C. (KPTV) -

The Portland Timbers were in the nation's capitol Saturday to take on D.C. United and they came back celebrating a win.

The match started at 4 p.m. at RFK Memorial Stadium.

Timbers midfielder Rodney Wallace scored first in the 21st minute.

He fired in a powerful shot from inside the penalty box while in acres of space from the nearest defender.

Darlington Nagbe doubled the lead just before the hour mark.

Nagbe collected an over-the-top ball from Ryan Johnson, skipped past two defenders and shot past the United keeper.

It ended 2-0 in Portland's favor.

The win not only moved the Timbers back into second place in the western conference, it also extended the club's unbeaten run to eleven matches.

The Green and White are back in action at JELD-WEN.

They're set to take on the Wilmington Hammerheads in the third round of the Open Cup.
