A dying son's gift to his mother was stolen out of her front yard.
Anna Marie Christian said someone recently stole stone and metal turtle statues from her home in the Bethany neighborhood. She said the yard art pieces were far more than just a decoration to her.
That's because the stone turtle with a decorative shell was a gift from her son, who has an inoperable brain tumor the size of a golf ball.
He was diagnosed in April two years ago and gave the turtle to his mother that May.
"He says, 'mom, I found the coolest turtle, I thought you'd like it. It will always remind you of me,'' Christian said, fighting back tears. "I'm just hoping at least the stone one would come back."
She said her son Josh has already outlived initial projections by doctors, but they say he likely doesn't have much more time.
She has driven around the neighborhood hoping to spot the turtles, but it hasn't happened.
Now, she's just hoping someone will come forward and return them. She doesn't have photos of the turtles, but she's offering a reward and promised "no questions asked" if the turtles, especially the stone sculpture, are returned.
"They always made me smile," she said. "Josh always loved turtles."
