There have been high hopes for years to revive Hickory Hollow Mall, but some neighbors say the new mall - with a new name - is not an improvement at all.
Global Mall at the Crossings held its official grand opening less than a month ago, and a meeting Tuesday brought people together who are concerned about what happens next for the area.
Mall management met with members of the Metro Council and the public to talk about their plan.
The new owners said they have signed leases for stores that reflect the diversity of the area and added upgrades and additional security.
However, the empty parking lot is testament to the lack of shoppers, and maintenance outside some parts of the mall may be turning people away.
Leaders say Macy's and Sears still own the properties where their now-shuttered stores sit, and Metro Councilwoman Jacobia Dowell said the companies are not maintaining the grass and shrubbery outside.
The key to the mall's initial turnaround could be Nashville State Community College, which has a satellite campus at the mall, bringing hundreds of students to the area.
