OLCC rejects 25-cent surcharge for hard liquor bottles

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV/AP) -

Drinkers of distilled spirits will not have to fork over an extra quarter to buy a bottle of booze.

Commissioners of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission voted 3-2 during a special meeting Wednesday morning to reject a proposed 25-cent surcharge.

The cost would have been applied to each bottle purchased of distilled spirits.

OLCC said the surcharge, if it had passed, was expected to generate $16.2 million for the 2013-2015 biennium.

Commissioners recently extended a temporary 50-cent surcharge that has been in effect since April 2009.
