Paramedics rushed two toddlers to the hospital after they fell out of a second-story window Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokesman for Portland Fire and Rescue.
It happened at an apartment complex in the 8900 block of North Newell Avenue. Firefighters said the kids, 2 and 3, pushed out a screen and landed on hard-packed dirt right below the window.
Their mom called 911 and told dispatchers one of her daughters was unconscious, but when paramedics arrived, they found both little girls were awake and crying.
"Her eyes were closed, and she wasn't crying or anything, and I don't know if she was unconscious or what but she was calm," said neighbor Liz Fleming.
Firefighters said between 40 and 50 kids fall out of windows each year in Oregon.
Firefighters want to remind parents with young childrento use a window stop that can keep the window from opening more than four inches and prevent kids from falling out.
There was no update Wednesday evening on how the two toddlers were doing.
