SHERWOOD, OR (KPTV) -
A former Sherwood High School teacher accused of sexually abusing two former students held hands with her husband as she waited to face a judge in court Tuesday.
Washington County deputies say Denise Keesee turned herself in to detectives Monday in the wake of an investigation that began back on Oct. 31 after years of rumors at the school.
A grand jury indicted Keesee this week on six counts of second-degree sex abuse. The indictment alleges she had sexual relationships with two of her former male, at-risk students while they were still attending the school.
At the time of the alleged abuse, the students were between 14 and 17 years old, and the relationships occurred at separate times between 2006 and 2012, authorities said. The students no longer attend Sherwood High School.
Court documents allege the crimes happened at her Sherwood home, in Tualatin's Ibach Park and at a Tualatin apartment complex.
Investigators believe there could be more victims.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office first started investigating Keesee after the Department of Human services tipped them off to the situation.
The Sherwood School District then placed Keesee on administrative leave in November after learning of the case. Keesee went on to officially resign from her position at the high school last month.
FOX 12 has also learned that Keesee's husband was a school resource officer at Sherwood High, as well as the school's lacrosse coach until January. He has since been reassigned as a Sherwood patrol officer, according to WCSO.
A Washington County investigator said the husband's position as school resource officer may have acted as a deterrent for the victims because he would be the person the students would normally report a crime.
The couple did not make a comment at the courthouse Tuesday. Keesee pleaded not guilty and posted bail at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 1.
