The Hillsboro Hops hosted the team's home opener Monday at its brand new stadium. They beat the Eugene Emeralds 12-0.

The Hillsboro Ballpark is part of the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex off of Highway 26 near the Cornelius Pass exit.

"The minute they said the hops tickets were on sale we were in line," said Nick Hubbard, who bought season tickets for him and his son Nate, 7. "Nate's just so excited. He wants to do it for the rest of his life."

The city of Hillsboro built the stadium and the team relocated from Yakima, WA – a $15 million project that seems to be getting rave reviews from fans.

"Fresh turf good lines, great seats, I mean it's awesome," Hubbard said.

For players, the stadium is only part of the thrill.

"The support from all the citizens of this city is amazing," said Randy McCurry, a short stop from Oklahoma. "This is probably one of the best facilities I've been in."

Fans have been waiting more than 1000 days for baseball's return to the Portland area and hope this time it's here to stay.

"This is nice to have a home team here. I think it's pretty exciting and think people are pretty excited about it, said Joe Bracamonte, who attended the game.

The Hops home stand continues Tuesday and Wednesday and tickets are still available.
