Man on motorcycle killed after crashing into tree

Posted: Updated:

A man on a motorcycle was killed after crashing into a tree off Highway 26.

Oregon State Police said it happened at 7:20 p.m. Monday about two miles west of Rhododendron.

John Tomer, 65, of Madras, was on a 2006 Harley Davidson heading eastbound when he traveled across the westbound lane. A witness in another car slowed down to avoid a collision and said the motorcycle continued off the highway and into a ditch before hitting a tree.

Tomer was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's not clear what caused Tomer to veer across the road. He was wearing a helmet.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
