SCAPPOOSE, OR (KPTV) -

A driver was killed in a two-car crash that closed Highway 30 about two miles west of Cornelius Pass Road Tuesday.

It happened at 12:24 p.m. near Milepost 16. Police said a Mazda SUV was heading westbound when it crossed the center paved median and collided with the side of another car.

It's not yet known what caused the driver to cross into the eastbound lanes.

After the crash, both vehicles came to rest several hundred feet apart.

The driver of the second car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was taken by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with serious injuries.

The names of the people involved have not yet been released by police.

Traffic was detoured around the scene for nearly five hours. By 5:20 p.m., all lanes were open again.
