PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A few hours after a major crash on an Interstate 5 on-ramp, Oregon Department of Transportation crews shut down the freeway for an unrelated incident.

A 40,000-pound crane counterweight fell off a truck and onto I-5 southbound lanes in the Rose Quarter area.

The freeway will be closed until 2 p.m. as crews work to remove it.

The ramp to eastbound Interstate 84 from the Winning Way on-ramp will stay open during the work.

ODOT officials said all of the work should be complete in advance of the afternoon commute.

Earlier Wednesday, a semi plummeted 65 feet from an overpass, and ODOT shut down the I-84 westbound ramp to I-5 north for several hours.
