A month after being shot while trying to break up a fight, a Portland man is talking to Fox 12 about how the injuries has changed his life for the worse.
Craig Fleming was working overnight at the 76 gas station on NE 102nd Ave back in May. At around 3:30 in the morning, two customers got into a heated argument. Fleming tried to step in and help. He says he was trying to get them to break it up and get them off of the lot when one of the customers shot him.
"I don't know why they shot me, because all I was doing was my job," says Fleming.
Fleming was taken to the hospital in serious condition and is slowly making a recovery.
When we caught up with him, Fleming said he has lost almost 100 pounds and is not able to go back to work. He says it's creating a struggle to take care of his family, which includes a newborn daughter. He says the shooting happened the day after his daughter came home from the hospital.
Officers and K-9 units searched the area immediately after the shooting, but did not locate any suspects. The shooter remains on the loose. Fleming says he just wants the shooter captured before someone else is hurt.
