Swastika painted on family's van in Oak Grove

Deputies are investigating a disturbing case of vandalism in Oak Grove that could be racially motivated.

Someone pained a swastika on the side of a van parked outside a home in the 5100 block of La Mesa Way.

Elijah Stewart, 16, said his little brother discovered the disturbing symbol while mowing the lawn Wednesday morning.

"At first I thought it was spraypaint but I don't think spraypaint would come off that easy," said Stewart. "So it must be some different type of paint where they brushed it on."

The family called the cops, who aren't sure if the vandalism is racially motivated.

The swastika was painted on backwards so investigators said it is unclear if it was meant to symbolize Nazi hate or if it was just juvenile taggers messing around.

The Stewarts believe they could have been targeted.

"Since we're really the only mixed family around here, that could be it," said Stewart. "I'm not sure though."

Neighbors told FOX 12 at least two other vehicles in the area were also tagged with swastikas using the same white paint.

"If somebody's joking that's not funny to do," said Christina Joy, who discovered a swastika and a racial slur tagged on her neighbor's truck while walking her dog Wednesday.

"There are a lot of kids around here and that's a bad word in our house," said Joy. "It's not readily used around here or anywhere. I don't hear it anywhere so to just go on a walk with my dog and that's the first thing I see when I turn the corner is very disturbing."

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the vandalism to contact police.
