A 34-year-old Salem man was beaten and robbed by five men outside a Plaid Pantry store Thursday night.
Marion County deputies said the victim rode his bicycle to the store at 4617 Silverton Rd. N.E. around 11:45 p.m.
When he left the store, an 18-year-old man ordered him to go back inside and buy beer for his group. If he refused, the teen said, he would be beaten up.
The victim tried to ignore the man, then started to ride off when he was attacked from behind.
The group of young men kicked and beat the victim for several minutes. At one point, they stole his bicycle and threw it into the roadway on Silverton Road. They also took the victim's backpack.
The victim suffered cuts and bruises and a more serious leg wound.
Information from witnesses helped deputies track down a car linked to the crime about 30 minutes later.
Deputies found the victim's backpack inside the car, plus a tire iron that may have been used in the attack.
Investigators identified the attackers as 20-year-old Angel Delao, 18-year-old Sebastian Cazarez Campos, 18-year-old Kaleb Bogle and 20-year-old J.C. Palomo. A 17-year-old boy also took part in the attack, deputies said.
