SWAT standoff ends in Sherwood; Suspects still on run

SHERWOOD, OR (KPTV) -

The search continues for two people wanted on felony warrants that were believed to be holed up Friday inside a Sherwood business.

Daniel Crum, 26, and Heather Amaya, 43, are both wanted by police.

They were spotted by an officer going into the Improved Auto Center on the 14800 block of Southwest Tualatin Sherwood Road on Friday afternoon, police said. That prompted a SWAT standoff that lasted for several hours. It's believed the two were inside the business with another man, police said.

After making several attempts to contact Crum and Amaya, police told FOX 12 shortly after 8 p.m. Friday that they were essentially walking away from the situation and would attempt to get the two at another time.

Crum is wanted on two felony warrants that include eluding officers on Thursday, police said. According to records, he has a long criminal history including several convictions for drug and gun-related charges that date back to 2006.

Amaya is wanted on a drug-related felony warrant, police said. According to records, she was convicted of meth possession in 2011.

It's unclear if the two were armed when they were spotted going into the business on Friday, police said.

During the standoff, employees from several nearby businesses were told to stay inside or get away from the area.

"My wife had just showed up about 10 minutes earlier," said Sam Hays, who owns a barbecue business nearby. "We got a brand new car, which we don't buy new cars very often. And I though... well, we're right in the line of fire there, so my luck... my $30,000 worth of barbecues were gonna get riddled with bullets as well as my car."

Hays and his young son ended up being just fine.

Hays had a load of barbecues arrive from Kansas on Friday and was very worried about his customers that were inside his business when the standoff nearby began, he said. One customer had just driven to Sherwood from Bend to pick up one of the barbecues, the customer said.

If you have any information about where Crum or Amaya might be, call the Sherwood Police Department.
