Country music singer's barn destroyed by fire

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A barn belonging to country music singer Tommy Overstreet went up in flames Sunday morning.

The mid-morning fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damages.

Overstreet, who was most popular in the 1970s, told investigators he stepped outside the home Sunday to allow his dog to get some exercise. He heard some popping and went to investigate, then found flames crawling up the side of his barn about 75 yards from his home.

Overstreet rushed back to his home and called 911.

Firefighters found a 30' by 30' metal-clad barn fully-involved when they arrived.

Firefighters used a water shuttle because the nearest hydrant was more than quarter-mile away. They were able to bring the flames under control in about 20 minutes, but spent another two hours mopping up hot spots.

Overstreet was not injured, and no animals were in the barn. A van, a pickup truck and a horse trailer suffered considerable damage in the blaze.

Investigators said there's nothing suspicious about the fire.
