SCAPPOOSE, OR (KPTV) -

A man who caused a fatal Highway 30 crash while on his way to rehab had his bail set at $252,000 on Monday.

Mark Thomas told Multnomah County deputies he was driving from Portland to Astoria to check himself into rehab last week. He also admitted to smoking meth, taking Xanax, drinking beer and taking hits from a marijuana pipe before the crash, according to court documents.

While south of Scappoose, he drove his Mazda SUV across the center median of Highway 30, then crashed into the side of an eastbound Buick Century, police said.

The crash killed 65-year-old Wayne McCormick, who was behind the wheel of the Buick.

Thomas was arraigned Monday on charges of second-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence.

His next court hearing is set for July 2.
